Improving Education

I was educated at Parmiter's School near Bushey. As I have said many times before, the excellent state education I received gave me the very best start in life and I owe them a debt of gratitude.  Protecting and improving funding for our state schools is therefore an important priority for me and I frequently make the case for doing so.

As our community continues to grow, we need to invest in new schools and facilities. I helped secure a replacement block at Dame Alice Owen's in Potters Bar, backing for the re-building of Hertswood Academy in Borehamwood, the creation of a new primary school for Yavneh College and a new special school in Potters Bar.

St Hilda’s Prep School for Girls and Immanuel Jewish Prep have announced that they may be forced to close because of the government’s VAT hike on independent schools fees. I have continuously opposed this policy and raised it at the highest level, asking the Prime Minister to reconsider its impact. I have been working with parents and schools to support this transition.

I also continue to raise the issues with SEND services. I know that many residents have experienced problems. Hertfordshire County Council has committed to deliver extra support for SEND services. I will continue to track progress and make the case locally and nationally for improving services.
