Sir Oliver has called for the establishment of a Banking Hub in the Borehamwood area following news that Santander and Barclays will be closing their local branches.
Banking Hubs are run by the Post Office and offer services which are not available at ATMs or Deposit Machines. They also provide access in-person support and services from major banks via visiting Community Bankers.
Sir Oliver said, “A number of concerned constituents have been in touch about recent announcements that Santander and Barclays will be closing their branches on Shenley Road in Borehamwood.
With Halifax, Lloyds and NatWest having already closed over the past five years, many local residents now face lengthy journeys to access any banking services beyond simple cash withdrawals or deposits.
I have therefore been in contact with the relevant authorities at HM Treasury, the Financial Conduct Authority and LINK to raise this issue and request that a Banking Hub is established in the area.
Rest assured that I will follow this matter closely and will continue to push for the availability of in-person and face-to-face banking services in Borehamwood and throughout Hertsmere.”
