The Rt Hon Sir Oliver Dowden KCB CBE, Member of Parliament for Hertsmere, enjoyed a fantastic visit to Borehamwood High Street to mark this year’s Small Business Saturday, calling in on three much-loved local businesses; Shenley Sandwich Bar and Bakery, B Kosher Grocery, and Heaven Scent Florist.
Small Business Saturday celebrates the UK's much-loved 5.45 million small businesses and encourages the nation to show their support, particularly by spending and shopping small. Small Business Saturday takes place on the first Saturday in December but is not just a date. It’s a year-round national movement to spotlight the small businesses that make a big difference to our communities and economy.
The campaign has reached millions of people, with billions spent with small businesses and is proudly in its thirteenth year in the UK.
Sir Oliver said: “It was wonderful to be out on Borehamwood High Street for Small Business Saturday. Shenley Sandwich Bar and Bakery, B Kosher Grocery and Heaven Scent Florist are excellent local businesses, and it was a real pleasure to meet the owners, Sue, Norman and Louise, and see the brilliant range of goods they offer.”
“Small businesses sit right at the heart of our community. They bring life, character and opportunity to our high streets, but many told me how tough rising costs, business rates and National Insurance have made things in recent years.”
Sir Oliver added: “Small businesses have a transformative impact on our local economy and community. As we celebrate Small Business Saturday, I encourage everyone across Hertsmere to get out, shop small, and support the fantastic local businesses that make our towns such special places.”
