Since I was elected, I have campaigned tirelessly as your Member of Parliament to secure vital upgrades to our local transport services.
Like many local residents, I have long been frustrated by the lack of lifts at Radlett Station. At the moment, the only way someone can use the train to travel to and from the station is to climb the stairs up to the footbridge. It is particularly concerning for those with accessibility issues, wheelchair users, those with luggage and parents with prams.
The two neighbouring stations, Elstree & Borehamwood and St Albans City are accessible already, with Radlett the odd one out.
I have previously nominated Radlett Station for the government’s Access for All programme. The Access for All scheme is funded by the government, through the Department for Transport, in order to carry out improvements and upgrades on our railways across the UK.
Since the election last year, I have been pushing for the government to provide an update on improving accessibility at Radlett Station and a general update on whether they would maintain the Access for All programme.
The Department for Transport have continually delayed providing a proper answer, saying that they were not yet able to comment on the next steps regarding Access for All projects at specific stations, including Radlett station, until the Spending Review.
Following the recent Spending Review, I have written to the Department for Transport to push them to ensure that the Access for All programme is retained and that Radlett Station can be upgraded.
I will continue to campaign on this in order to improve our local transport networks and I think everyone, regardless of their accessibility needs, should be able to use them.
