This is a moment of profound anxiety for the Jewish community. I want to say that I hear and share people’s anger, and I will act on it.
I am proud to represent one of the largest Jewish communities in the country, and I see daily the resilience and contributions this community makes.
Sadly, we are seeing this community threatened as never before. The attacks in Golders Green. The intimidation on our streets. The targeting of Jewish people, Jewish institutions, and Jewish life. This should shock and shame us, and it demands an urgent, robust response.
I share your fury at what has happened and your frustration at the government’s lack of urgency. That is why I have been consistently advocating in Parliament and elsewhere for tougher action against the hate marches and Islamist extremism; for anti Jew racism to be treated with the same seriousness that the government and public institutions treat racism against other communities; and to stop appalling genocidal slurs against Jews. I am afraid that the rot runs deep in our society and institutions. I can only hope that the recent attacks will finally serve as a wake-up call.
Antisemitism serves as a warning sign for society, with the Jewish community being the canary in the coal mine. If left unchecked, this hatred will spread to corrode the values and freedoms of the entire nation. Therefore, combating this threat is not just a Jewish issue, but a critical national issue that should concern every British citizen.
As your Member of Parliament, I take my responsibility extremely seriously. I will continue to work with police and local partners to ensure proper protection for Jewish communities. I will continue to press for tougher action against extremist marches and intimidation. I will continue to challenge the misuse of language that fuels hatred.
This is not just about policy; it is about principle and for people to live without fear. I will therefore continue to stand up- clearly, robustly, and unapologetically for the Jewish community’s right to live openly, proudly and safely in this country.
