I am proud to represent one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish communities in the country. Here in Radlett and Bushey, Jewish life is not only a vital part of our local identity, but also a source of strength, culture, and friendship.
Recently, I visited the Community Security Trust (CST) operations hub in Hendon to hear more about the important work they do to protect our Jewish community in Hertsmere.
While many will recognise CST volunteers at their local synagogues or community events, the behind the scenes work that keeps our communities safe is extraordinary. In the wake of the October 7 terror attacks in Israel and the subsequent attack on a synagogue in Manchester, the need for vigilance and robust security measures has never been clearer, something that I know is extremely important to residents.
I met with CST Chief Executive Johnny Newton and Hertfordshire Regional Lead Neil Rosen, and was shown the full scale of their 24/7 operations, from sophisticated threat monitoring to hands on support for schools, synagogues, youth groups, and community organisations.
At a time when threats to the Jewish community have grown, CST’s work offers crucial reassurance. Their strong partnership with government and policing ensures a coordinated response to keep people safe, but what truly sets CST apart is their deep understanding of the community they serve. Here in Radlett/ Bushey their presence enables families to attend shul with confidence, children to learn safely, and community life to flourish.
Seeing the professionalism and commitment of CST staff and volunteers up close was a powerful reminder of the vital role they play every day in protecting Jewish life across Hertsmere and the wider UK.
