Sir Oliver Dowden MP recently visited Elstree Aerodrome to welcome leading helicopter manufacturer, Leonardo, to the site.
Aldenham Aviation, the owner-operator of the aerodrome, has entered an agreement with Leonardo for the development of new premises that will enable Leonardo to expand their maintenance capability for their UK customers’ fleet of commercial and dual-use helicopters.
Leonardo recently took a lease of the existing Southeast Hangar at the Aerodrome and are planning to build a new hangar to the north of the runway. The works are expected to take roughly a year.
Oliver said: ‘I recently had a flying visit to Elstree Aerodrome to welcome and learn about helicopter company Leonardo and their plans at the site.
‘It is great news that a leading helicopter manufacturer want to develop their new premises, including a hangar, here in Hertfordshire at the counties’ last aerodrome.
‘I raised residents’ concerns about the potential noise this may cause but thankfully the hangar will be used for the maintenance of helicopters, therefore additional aerial activity will be very low and not expected to be noticeable outside the aerodrome.
‘I am sure this business will really take off and be a real boost to our local economy.’
