Sir Oliver Dowden MP recently paid another visit to Watford General Hospital to meet with Matthew Coats, Chief Executive Officer of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Catherine Dugmore, the new Chair of the Trust and Allison Phillips, Redevelopment Officer.
In January, the government delayed the redevelopment of Watford General Hospital, meaning construction of the main hospital building, under the New Hospital Programme, will not start until at least 2032 and potentially as late as 2034.
Sir Oliver received an update on the plans for the redevelopment and was told that once the green light is given by government, the Hospital is ready to get building.
Oliver was also updated on the Hospital’s performance, partnerships and electronic integration.
Catherine was appointed as Chair of the Trust in February 2025.
Sir Oliver said: ‘I was pleased to receive an update on Watford General Hospital recently.
‘Following the government’s regrettable decision not to fund refurbishment until at least 2032, I was assured that if asked to do so sooner, the Hospital stands ready to get building.
‘I continue to work with them to ensure we have a hospital that best serves our community.’
