Sir Oliver recently visited the former BBC Elstree Centre, where demolition is currently underway in preparation for the development of the site’s new Fairbanks Studios.
Sir Oliver first made the case for protecting the site for studios when he met BBC Director-General Tim Davie with then council leader Morris Bright, in September 2022.
During the visit, the team showed Sir Oliver the plans for the development of the site, and where they plan to preserve the history of the BBC Elstree Centre, incorporating some of its original and iconic features into the new design.
Sir Oliver said: “I am delighted to see this project come to fruition. It serves film and TV production in the BBC Elstree site and further strengthens Hertsmere’s profile as the heart of UK and global film and TV, inviting many more jobs and opportunities for residents.”
The project will be a great asset to the Hertsmere community as well as to Borehamwood’s significance and contribution to British film and television. Sir Oliver looks forward to visiting once the site is finished.
