The local Member of Parliament, The Rt Hon Sir Oliver Dowden KCB CBE MP recently visited Bhaktivedanta Manor to join the local Hindu community in celebrating Janmashtami, one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar.
The celebrations brought together thousands of worshippers and visitors from across Hertsmere and beyond, with traditional performances, music, food and festivities taking place throughout the Manor.
This year's celebrations are expected to welcome around 55,000 visitors over the course of the weekend and are supported by around 1,700 volunteers.
Sir Oliver said: "It was fantastic to return to Bhaktivedanta Manor and celebrate Janmashtami with the community. From the performances to the music, food and celebrations throughout the Manor, it was wonderful to see so many people coming together to mark such a special occasion."
Sir Oliver added: "I would like to thank the 1,700 volunteers whose hard work and dedication help make these celebrations possible. With around 55,000 visitors expected over the weekend, the scale of this year's celebrations is truly remarkable.
Janmashtami is a great example of faith, culture and community coming together for the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness and to celebrate Krishna's birthday in Hertsmere, and I wish everyone celebrating a very happy Janmashtami."
