On Remembrance Sunday, Oliver had the privilege of joining local veterans and residents at a service in Potters Bar. 

To commemorate servicemen and women from Hertsmere, Oliver laid a wreath at the War Memorial on Salisbury Close, having already planted a cross in the Remembrance Garden at the Houses of Parliament earlier in the week. 

After the service, Oliver visited the local branch of the Royal British Legion and spoke with its members and volunteers. 

Oliver said “Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day provide an important opportunity to recognise the contribution of members of our armed forces past and present, and to pay tribute to all who have fought for our nation. We must never forget those who made such immense sacrifices in defence of our values and our freedom. Today and forever, we will remember them. 

I have met veterans up and down the country, including in our community in Hertsmere. I know that, all too often, the burden of conflict does not end on the battlefield. That is why it is vital that, beyond remembrance, we must support those who have put themselves in harm’s way for our country. It is the very least that we owe them for their commitment and sacrifice. I am proud that the Government I served in created the Office for Veterans’ Affairs and I will use my voice in Parliament to advocate for veterans whenever I can. 

Lastly, we should do all we can to support the Royal British Legion’s annual poppy appeal. If you have not donated yet this year, then please consider doing so.”
