Sir Oliver Dowden MP recently visited the newly opened The Plough in Elstree, with Councillor Harvey Cohen.

Oliver met with owner Steve Haslam to get a tour of the pub and to discuss the major economic pressures facing independent hospitality businesses, including National Insurance Contributions, the National Living Wage and business rates.

The historic village inn successfully reopened its doors in May following a comprehensive £1.2 million investment. The landmark project marks the end of a nine-year period of closure and neglect, restoring a vital social hub to the Elstree community while creating local employment.

A standout success story when so many other pubs are closing.

Unfortunately, The Plough is facing the same problems as other pubs, with an extra £14,738 due because of Labour's tax rises.
